LIVNG OUR LAMENTS - A Quiet Morning for Manresa Link members
2020 has been a difficult year for most of us. The language of Lament expresses strong emotions of distress: grief, rage, fear. However, our prayers are generally expressed in polite language, designed not to offend. So, what do we do with those strong emotions that rock us in the face of tragedy, injustice and the hard experiences of life? Almost a third of the psalms are “psalms of lament”, songs and prayers that were written in stressful circumstances. Often, the language is extreme, and may shock us, but it expresses the writer’s intense emotion and arises from their trust in the God who loves them and can cope with their expressions.
You are invited to join us for a zoom Quiet Morning as we engage with some of these psalms and have space to create our own laments. The morning will include some examples of how to use language and art to engage with this activity. Details are as follows:
Date: 13 February 2021
Time: 10 am -12.45 pm
Please bring: a bible, writing materials and art materials
Facilitators: Juliet Fletcher, Maureen Slattery-Marsh, Kathryn Darby, Ruth Chatfield
If you would like to attend please email me on: [email protected] and I will send you the zoom link as well as a couple of introductory articles to read beforehand. If you are interested but not able to access zoom please let me know and I can send you an outline of what we will be covering for you to use in your own time.
Our bi-annual meetings are a great opportunity for catching up with old and new friends. There’s no need to book, and they are free to full members of Manresa Link.
